Jacaranda. Absolutely beautiful but messy and smelly. In So Cal there are neighborhoods full of Jacarandas. The odor produced by several hundred blooming Jacarandas is enough to make your eyes water.

I've seen similar trees that have large purple flowers, but no odor whatsoever. And when the blossoms drop, they bear seed pods similar to acacias. Perhaps those are purple blossom acacias?

If it's a tree, probably the Texas Mountain Laurel as they have fat seed pods that look almost like soy beans.

Texas Tree Selector: Tree Description

But texas mountain laurel blooms smell like grape soda/grape kool aid but you have to put your nose close/right on the flower to smell it so not really sure since you say it doesn't smell like anything.

I know of no purple Acacia tree as the blooms are usually in the white/yellow/orange-ish family and are round in shape.
