I actually live in Anthem. Country Club is a gated golf community, but it is not age restricted.

Glad to hear that it's not age restricted. After looking at it on-line it looks like a great place and we would have been disappointed that we didn't check it out. But after a career at a children's hospital dealing with other people's kids, I have no desire to continue to do so in retirement. Call me an old geezer/curmudgeon if you like (even though I'm not quite 62)...

To each his own.

However, on our second morning as we sat on the patio we noticed the unmistakeable smell of cow manure and the flies, oh my, the flies drove us inside.

We continue our search for a possible retirement home. SCAMR certainly has some benefits but we are very, very concerned about that odor and the flies. Would like to hear from others who may have some experience at this location.

I must have missed something, thought you were ready to buy in Green Valley. Change your mind?

We're ready to buy when we make aa final decision. There are still considerations unresolved. We like Green Valley but we also think there might be more of a 'community' in a resort style setting such as Anthem. We love Quail Creek but not the cost. So, the short answer to my rather long winded reply is "no, we haven't made up our minds so therefore there's been no change of mind".

We have friends who live in Quail Creek and when we visit them it seems like a nice place, although a bit more remote than we would want for ourselves. We prefer to be between Phoenix and Tucson, to be able to access both cities. Anthem Merrill Ranch fills the bill. Plus, the amenities can't be beat...and zero cow smell.
