We signed on to get our 4 ton AC unit replacement from Collins Comfort Masters this Tuesday, but I'm thinking we might be paying too much.

We are getting a dual stage unit and they are going to charge over 10 grand for replacing everything including the furnace. Is that high or normal?

Thanks in advance for your input.

Sounds like a lot. Do you have a separate furnace, or are we talking about a heat pump that does both functions? I would never get something that large/expensive replaced based on one estimate. You need to shop around. Prices can vary WIDELY.

In addition, if the new system is an air conditioner and gas furnace, is the furnace a condensing or non-condensing model? If it is a high-efficiency condensing model there are significant differences in terms of installation, since they require a PVC flue and a condensate disposal, which adds a lot to installation costs. Almost nobody buys condensing furnaces here in the Phoenix area since the efficiency gain over a standard non-condensing furnace will not pay itself off in our climate.

Get at least 5 bids watch out for slick talking sales guy talk you into 10k AC system. Remember ROI on high Seer units usually exceeds the warranty by double. The ROI between a 14 seer and 19 seer is crazy like 15 years.
