I'm in the process of looking for a house to buy with a pool. The areas I'm concentrating on are Mesa, Gilbert, and Chandler. Since I'm not "married" to any of the three cities which of these three would likely have a lower water bill with a pool?

Any average monthly bills would also be good to know.

Water is the least of your worries...electricity is what is going to increase with a pool.

I have a pool, grass and lots of plants and my "water" bill is like $30/month.

Electricity on the other hand is like $450/month during the summer with increased A/C and Pool Pump usage.

I'm in Gilbert - our water bill (with everything, I don't know the breakdown of each part) is around $75-80 a month with a pool.

In the summer - our electric bill is around $350 a month.

I was surprised at how much my electric bill went up with a new pool. The water bill increase was not a big deal, but with new landscaping the water bill has definitely increased ($100/mo). I have a 3800 sq. foot house with lots of windows and 2 high efficiency units. My electric bill in the summer is about $500/mo.

Mine is around $120 per month in the summer but that includes garbage and sewer.

I'm sure there are plenty of posts that discuss electricity bills in the summer vs. winter months (with or without a pool) so you folks that posted your electricity bills, what were the bills in the middle of Jan? Also, this won't a full time residence so the AC will be set at a temperature as if we won't be living there (especially in summer). We'll be there most of winter, some of spring/fall, but not in summer. We're looking at homes that are about 2500 sq. ft. since that will make some difference with electricity bill.

That isn't a "water bill", that is a "water, sewer and garbage bill". To help the OP with the question asked, what portion of that bill is water since the amount of the other two generally have nothing to do with having a pool.

Around $100 for my electric in the winter months.

So you want a pool to use in the non pool season? You'll need a pool heater then and that will drastically raise your electric/gas bill in the winter months if you're trying to heat a pool. DON'T GET A POOL if you're only going to be here in the non-swimming season. You'll quickly tire of swimming in the cold and having to take care of it all year even when you're not in the area. Get a hot tub.

Whatever, the point is it's not astronomical. If someone told me my overall bill would only be $120 including pool water, I wouldn't look at houses without pools.

Heating a pool in the winter months can be extraordinarily high. My husband's boss told us he heated his over Thanksgiving and his gas bill was over $500 for 2 days of having the heat on. Not worth it.
