I'm looking forward to my move to Phoenix in June 2016. I will be moving from Louisiana and would like to know about the local driving jobs in the area such as beverage/beer/food delivery or any other local, home every night positions. Is Phoenix a city that has lots of commercial truck traffic? Do I have to know Spanish to compete for jobs? I will have 1 year Otr experience.

There are many jobs. Don't expect big pay though. Work your way in an union shop, like ABC.

I believe Knight and Swift are both based in Phoenix, so if you have to, it should be easy to get a long haul job. And there are a ton of distribution centers and so forth in the Phoenix area that may offer closer-to-home opportunities. There should be plenty of opportunities for a CDL Class A driver. For home-every-night you might check with the grocery chains and beer distributors. Fry's, Safeway, Albertson's and Basha's are the big groceries locally. For beer trucks I think Hensley and Crescent Crown are the big ones, at least that I see on the roads. Maybe also soft drink companies, Kalil is a local soft drink distributor and I assume Coca-Cola and Pepsi and so forth have operations here too.

As ScottsdaleMark mentioned, there are multiple trucking jobs based in Phoenix since this is the primary distribution hub for the southwest. A lot of stuff coming out of California stops off here on it's way east or north. Phoenix is really the last transportation hub for most industries until you get to Dallas or Denver. All of the info mentioned above is good stuff. For OTR truckers, multiple large carriers in addition to Knight and Swift have terminals/domiciles in Phoenix, including Heartland, Marten Transport, Navajo, and many other regional carriers. There are also a good amount of smaller truckload companies with 5-10 trucks that are based here in Phoenix or in southern Arizona closer to the border that get a lot of work from companies shipping out of Mexico that need US partner carriers once the dray is complete.

For work that would be most likely to keep you home every day... Virtually all of the primary LTL carriers have terminals in Phoenix including Estes, Conway, Reddaway, and several more. FedEx and UPS both have freight and parcel terminals in town as well. Some of the larger food distributors like US Foods and Sysco have decent sized fleets that operate locally, plus there are dozens of smaller shippers that have their own small private fleets. Kalil is based in Tucson but they have a domicile in Tempe. Pepsi has a large fleet operation as well. All the grocery chains mentioned above have their own fleets, although many of them are farmed out to larger dedicated operations like Schneider or Ruan.

To the OP: You should have no problem finding opportunities here. And while Spanish-speaking abilities is certainly a nice-to-have for just about any job, it certainly won't be a requirement.

My Brother moved here a few years ago found it difficult to find a job where he was home every day didn't want over the road job which can be done from almost any state. He ended up working for central transport wasn't a good experience. Poor maintenance, and a bunch of stuff happened said worst company he had worked for in 30 years of truck driving once they put haz material on his truck by mistake and he almost got arrested going into California. They made employees park outside the terminal another employee got caught steeling LCD TV's he thought my Brother was the one who snitched on him but he had nothing to do with it the guy kicked a big dent in the side of my Brothers new car door after he was fired. Turned out the guy was just followed by a private detective to his storage unit where the tV's were stored. He used to come home with a new story every week crazy stuff going on there.
