It's that time again, needing to buy a new car and we've decided on another Accord. I see there's plenty of Honda dealers around the valley and I'd like to find one that will give the least aggravation and the best price without all the games.

I read all the online reviews I could find but they seem to be mostly aimed at service and less about sales. I also believe that most people are more likely to write a review only after a bad experience so that skews them even further, so I'm turning to the forum. Which ones have you had the least amount of hastle dealing with?

Thanks.

Go to any dealership and test drive what you want. Don't sit down with them and don't talk numbers. Just find what you want. Then go to ever local Honda dealer website and contact their internet sales departments. Tell them what model/trim you are looking for and tell them you are only going to negotiate through email (this is the easiest way to keep track of everything). Once you start receiving offers with prices start your negotiations on the out-the-door price of the vehicle. Don't enter the dealership until you have an offer you like in writing from one of them.

My recommendation is to look up each dealer on Yelp.com I would not select a dealer with less than 4 stars. Read the reviews carefully because people will name the dealer they worked with that they liked. And then I would call that dealer ahead of time and schedule an appointment with only that salesperson.

That process worked with me. And I found the salesperson who the reviewers applauded did indeed provide great service. Trust me, people are honest on Yelp and will tear into a dealership for bad service and will even name the sales person who provided bad service.

You never want to go blind into a car dealership. That is the worst thing you could do. Furthermore, you want to go in with some research. Look up Edmunds TMV (True Market Value) price which is the average price people in your area are paying. Know the dealer invoice etc.

In terms of getting the best price possible: simple...go to Cars.com The shipping costs are not that much ($800-$1000) and will save a lot of money even including the shipping costs. There are dealerships who essentially specialize in internet sales and ship cars all over the country. They are a high volume dealer and know they have the best rates in the country. I've saved probably $3-4K on each of my cars going this route. A lot of the local dealers want to price gouge because they can. They get plenty of business from dumb locals who are okay with paying more for convenience.

I don't know of any but many do offer discounted pricing for Costco members which is a little over invoice, but probably less than a no haggle dealer would offer. USAA members also can ask for member pricing.

Agreed and the best way to do this without getting hassled is to tell them you are test driving multiple vehicles that day such as the Toyota Camry and others in the same class. If they know you are not buying, they won't talk numbers. But if you imply that you are seriously thinking of buying an Accord, they will hassle you etc.

I've done this and it's overrated. First of all, the dealership has to participate in the Costco plan. Not all dealerships participate. And the ones who do offer usually some token discount. I did this with Mercedes. There was only one dealership in the city that was part of that Cosco association. And then his price including the Cosco discount was still $3000 more than what I paid by finding a deal on Cars.com. And I am referring to a new car from an official Mercedes Benz dealership that I found on Cars.com I only buy from official dealerships

I wouldn't say it's overrated. Last March, we bought a 2015 Honda Odyssey with all the bells and whistles for $500 over invoice via Costco.

Oh have Mercy. My son in law spent a few months at a Honda Dealership (working) and he said it's all crooked. They show you no respect and they just nickel and dime you to death. It's a bad game with all of them. So, good luck. I hope I never have to set foot in a dealer showroom ever again.

Just learn negotiating 101 and you won't need any of these gimmicks, "no haggle dealers", etc. You can always get the best deal on your own. $500 over invoice is no bargain unless it's a brand new or highly demanded model with no manufacturer support.

You just have to be an educated buyer and you'll be fine.
