This has been my worst battle with allergies in my years here. Those cheering on a bone dry February with temps 15 degrees above average are getting their payback. With all the green landscaping in The Valley along with 5 million people in a bowl shaped valley it is a toxic mix for allergy sufferers. That old tale of clean air for allergy suffers still applies to parts of Arizona but sure as hell not in PHX.

On the positive...the air quality on the other side of The Mazatzals is just pristine year around. I get a reprieve on weekends in the Tonto Basin where I keep motorhome but have to deal with this all week in PHX. Coming down the mountain from Sunflower on The Beeline you can see the haze and pollution over The Valley. Anthem , Carefree and Fountain Hills only areas with acceptable air quality due to desert landscaping and having help from the McDowells and other hills from the toxic air south of these areas.

Ever notice driving north on the 15 and 215 how hazy and smog filled the mountain ranges are as you get north of Temecula ? That is PHX air as well. The IE and PHX are similar in many aspects including air quality.

The only time the IE is clear is when easterly Santa Anas blow in the clean air from Banning and points east. The lack of wind in The Valley does not help. Higher altitude desert cities like Tucson and Vegas benefit from far more wind to not stagnate the air the way it is here.

Well it is a valley. As far as allergies go people have brought their own plants from other states but there are trees that cause terrible allergies native to AZ. My son has severe allergies (both food and environmental) and his include mesquite, palo verde and he worst for him is cottonwood.
To combat it when we lived there: we did immunotherapy which is time consuming at first 3Xper week until you meet "maintenance" doses and then 4 weeks. He took Claritin daily, Nasonex and had an emergency and maintenance for hi asthma.
I recommend seeing an allergist and can recommend one depending where you live during the week.
We are in NoVA now and his allergies are just as bad. Ugh!
Ihope you find a solution. It will involve medication. You can get Claritin and another NAsonex like OTC drug now.

I take claritin nondrowsy daily myself and it still impacts me in some degree. This year has been the worst for reasons previously stated above.

Meh, my allergies are just as bad in the "clean air" parts of the state. The trees out here are a big trigger

Have acreage in Valle, Holbrook and rent an RV space during the winter near Lake Roosevelt. Never had a problem in those areas. The larger diurnal temp variations make a far shorter growing season up north.

Another area with pristine air for allergy sufferers despite some high altitude greenery is Cochise County.

Mt Ord some 20 miles from Lake Roosevelt...how often can you say the same about the Estrellas or Superstitions from Scottsdale 20 miles away ?
