I want to relocate to Phoenix. Trying to find a rental. All houses and apartments have carpets in the bedrooms. Why?

I have allergies to dust and carpets are the worst in the way they spread dust mites and other dirt.

Why do people put carpets in their bedrooms in such a hot climate? I would think something cool like wood or stone would fit better.

Not all, mine doesn't. No need to generalize. Many people prefer carpet, I don't.

You might be having a run of bad luck.

I'm with you: allergies greatly exacerbated by carpet and all the dust/crud/dander/etc that accumulates no matter how much you vacuum.

I've seen a lot of houses that had no carpet in them at all. My husband insists on carpet, however, and I think there must be a lot of people for whom a place isn't complete without bedroom carpet.

My preference would be either hardwood or tile.

carpet is very near to being the cheapest flooring type....makes sense for a rental to not spend money on anything more expensive

I would guess most apartments have carpet in them simply because the upper floors need them to dampen the noise from upstairs tenants.

I do think there's something to what you're saying. I lived in a house with tile before and my allergies were better there vs living in a carpeted apartment as I do now.

A lot of tile is expensive and carpet it cheaper. Beyond that, despite it being hot here now, when it´s cold in winter, the carpet is warmer and much appreciated. There are many home remodels that also feature Wood type floorings.

I have always had allergies and would like a carpetless home, but due to old leg injuries I like the feeling of stepping onto carpet (in addition to wearing cushioned shoes). For now, I'm sticking with the carpet/vinyl/tile combination.

In the 26+ years I've lived in AZ I've heard many people say they don't like/won't have carpet, so those carpetless homes are out there. Good luck.

Carpet seems to be the most preferred flooring. I have allergies but do have hypo-allergic carpeting. No problems with it. It's also e-z on the feet, especially when you get up in the middle of the night to go to the potty or when you crawl out of bed in the mornings.

Quite a few of the updated/recently renovated apartments have tile or wood-look flooring. Or that's been my experience so far in looking.

Many people I know say they like the softness of carpet in the bedroom. Personally my wife and I hate any form of carpeting for various reasons and tiled our entire house, all the bedrooms included, and love it. But to each their own.
