That's what these toll entities want you to think. Your time is precious and why not pay $2-3 each way for your commute?

And then, you are joined by every other Tom, Dick, and Jane and that precious time is spent sitting in gridlock during your commute while you pay anywhere from $2-3 K a year in toll fees.

No thanks.

Want to improve traffic flow- install HOV lanes.

I'm just going from my experience of every toll lane or toll road I've been on usually flying by the rest of the traffic. I've not experience gridlock on them often enough to move the needle, but yes it occasionally happens.

Here in Dallas, it happens every day.

We end up using the access roads at times to avoid the tolls. Those access roads are also gridlocked at key areas during commute times and when there is an accident on the actual toll road.

Tx Dot has also been known to raise the tolls on the fly when there are accidents on non-toll roads, where people would then choose to use the toll road to avoid the backup. Pretty dam unethical.

HOV lanes make much more sense.

Shouldn't just be for toll roads. For reason it's really common for big rigs around here to be in every lane on the freeways and going 70+ instead of sticking to the right lane and going 55 like they're supposed to.

I would imagine trucking companies would look at this as a worthwhile expense and that area is full of distribution centers, and this would in turn help the existing traffic on I-10.

You both are wrong, let me explain how it really works, since I am a truck driver; the few times I HAVE to use a toll road, I have to pay the toll in cash out of my own pocket and hope I can get reimbursed, and the tolls for semi's are 5 times as much as for passenger vehicles, so that is a big outlay of cash; so if I have a free alternative that isn't 50+ miles out of the way, I will use it. The last toll I had to pay in the truck was on the I-80 bridge over Carquinez Strait in the SF Bay Area, $25!!! (it's $5 for passenger vehicles) I was just lucky I had the cash on me, the only free alternative would have been to take I-580 but that would have sent me down to Tracy when I needed to get to Sacramento, so I had no choice (we get penalized for going way out of the way)

If SR 30 does get built as a toll road, here is a potential design for a route shield:

The yellow color makes it more identifiable, and the "ARIZONA" text is replaced by "TOLL".

I don't mind tolls if it covers for paying for the roads, better than using our tax money to pay for expensive infrastructure paid by people being heavily subsidized. More tax money to go to education or other things we need just as much.

Granted if this road has a toll and is being subsidized by tax money just as much as any normal freeway, I won't support it. That is highway robbery pun intended.

If people really want a I-10 highway reliever they need to be building north of the I-10, not south of.

Can ADOT come up with a more recognizable/better name than SR 30? Buckeye Parkway or Yuma Turnpike sound better.

It will probably have a name when it is built, in addition to the SR 30 route designation as do all of our other freeways. Right now it is tentatively being called the "I-10 Reliever".

I personally think it shoukd be called the "West Valley Turnpike" if tolled.

Another question regarding tolls... Will ADOT have transponders that people can put on their windshield? Basically, you can fill up your transponder via online through your account with money which counts as credit, and that's used to bill the payment for the tolls.
