They need to compare to other budget airlines like southwest. I remember once in a southwest 727 years ago when they landed the aircraft vibrated so bad when reverse thrust was applied dust in the cabin made it look like we were in fog while landing at Ontario airport in California.

Easy enough to check into an airline NTSB reports just fill in the name of the airline shows Allegiant with only 2 NTSB reports.

NTSB Aviation Accident Database & Synopses

If I plug in mesa air into the database it returns lot more incidents way more then Allegiant

Southwest flies ONLY 737s, not 727s.

Right! Only they have 73G, 738 aircraft, but 737-300 soon to be retired.

Southwest used to fly 727s for a brief time in the late 1970s and again in the mid 1980s.

They also are scheduled to receive the 737-7 MAX and 737-8 MAX in the near future.

I wish more domestic carriers flew out of Mesa. But overall I support Allegiant and think we are lucky to have a steady set of flights leave out of there.

But at one point, didn't Mesa have 3 budget airlines: Allegiant, Spirit and Frontier? I have a lot of friends and family that have flown Spirit and have had good experiences with them.
The "you get what you pay for" rule does not always hold true. Examples: Wash DC schools (expensive) yet terrible schools; Walmart (inexpensive) yet same brands as competitors; name brand cosmetics vs. generic equivalents; generic Rx vs. name brand perscriptions; union labor (overpriced) vs. independent contractors; Vanguard investments (cheap) vs. stock broker (expensive.) On and on...

Look on the bright side: the MD-80's are supremely reliable and built to last (not unlike the cars of yesteryear). Plus, they are the best sounding passenger jets out there.

Back on topic, older planes require more maintenance. That's just the nature of the beast. Im not sure how poised Allegiant is to purchase newer aircraft, but it seems the time might be sooner rather than later if this negative publicity keeps up.

On related topic, I cannot believe (or, I really appreciate) how SAFE air travel has become in this country! Seems like planes don't crash (in USA) anymore! The last potential air catastrophe I can think of was the "miracle on the Hudson" flight. Amazing. Combination of training and technology (and regulation I assume.)

What better end than to flame out over the San Juan Mountains in Colorado?

Right, the first 737-8MAX soon to be delivery for next year. The flight test is completed.
