Sorry, but that is immoral and against the principles of a free society. Is it a deal breaker? No, because perhaps I can help to change it.

Nowhere in the Valley, except PERHAPS areas just outside it that are not incorporated, so you have only county regulations to deal with. Black Canyon City, and unincorporated areas of Pinal County outside Apache Junction, and the areas to the west of Phoenix that Ponderosa mentioned. You will only have the state and county to deal with, so fewer taxes and regulations, but they will still be there. What taxes in IL do you find so objectionable besides state income tax, which we also have here? (states with no income tax make it up with other taxes, especially high real property tax)

Yeah I don't think you are going to get away from taxes. We have income tax, property tax, our sales tax is close to 10% (depends on which city you are in), you still have to pay to register your car (% of total car value per year) and insure said vehicle...although you don't have to smog test your car unless you live in Maricopa County.

Contrary to what was said...most Arizonans that use the descriptor know EXACTLY what Libertarian means and we don't use it as a euphemism for Conservative. While you can't get the Government totally out of your pocket, the more rural you go the closer you can come to that goal. If you want to be around the Phoenix MSA then Casa Grande, AJ, New River...actually if you look out around Johnson Ranch in the SE valley, I believe that is still unincorporated county land. It is just going to be a drive to get into town.

Good luck.

Whoa I'm shocked people are jumping on the OP so fast. Have any of you read up on illiniois corrupt tax policies? I mean the OP said he pays $6k on $150k home.

To answer your question OP, you'll be fine anywhere in the Valley. Coming from a liberal state you'll feel free. The only thing that made me feel like you described are the traffic camera tickets. That's corruption.

That's not unique to IL, my mother in NY pays over $8k/yr on a property that was last evaluated at $150k

Since the OP hasn't been back here since January 8th, I think it's safe to assume he gave up.
