Definitely do your research... As foreclosures rise everywhere, those people that have been moved out of their homes are flooding the rentals across the nation, which in turn is telling property managers that they can raise the rent. Depending on your situation, you might be able to buy for cheaper than you can rent.

We also moved here from the midwest. Grand Forks, ND. We moved here a couple years ago in July. Not the best time to move. Other than the first couple weeks of temperature shock we haven't looked back.

I'm a transplant also. I have a home that is 1350 sq ft. My electric bill (with averaging) is $125 a month (was $105 but utilities have increased). I had a new air conditioner added 2 years ago. I keep my air conditioner at 78 in the summer with a few times taking it to 77. In the winter I keep the heat at 72. Currently it is 84 at 3:57 and I shut the heat off about 3 weeks ago. Just a FYI
