Flood irrigated neighborhoods with grass and big trees are always cooler in the summer. They are disappearing because of flippers remodeling the old homes and putting in gravel yards and swimming pools. My SRP irrigation bill has risen to $100. this year. In my old hood my water bills could be $350./month for a couple lf months in the summer.

The natural desert areas in the preserve seem to cool off just as much as any neighborhoods.

North Scottsdale and cave creek range anywhere from 5-10 degrees cooler. Not like Florida though.

In Phoenix, that's valuable real estate. People pay 2-10 times as much to live there so they can save those 3 degrees in the summer.

Its more than 3 degrees. Ive left downtown Phoenix in summer where it was 114 degrees, and driven up to the Dynamite Road area in North Scottsdale and it was 105. Its noticeably cooler up there. Watch your car's ambient air temp as you drive up Scottsdale Road. Once you hit the Jomax Road area, youll notice a difference. Climb even higher towards Pinnacle Peak on Dynamite and it can even drop another 2 degrees. Ive seen it personally.

I don't think the rest of the country would understand how we actually know the temperature difference of a couple degrees of a few miles away. I bet they laugh and wonder why we care..

The property value climbs right along with it.

Im sure they do laugh! But when 105 is tolerable and 114 isn't, Im sure they'd understand if they could only feel the difference.

For sure. Most of the homes are new and luxury, in gated communities on golf courses. There are lots of old homes with gravel driveways, too, but the majority are new estates. It so nice up there, Im jealous. Great views, cooler weather, vast nighttime stars, great scenery. Its all part of the "overpriced" package I guess.
