Definitely a good thing to be aware of, like any new place there are new diseases and pests to deal with. People should for sure try to avoid getting bit but I don't think the stats show that mosquitoes here are notorious for having WNV, you can read up on the stats on AZDHS or the CDC website. Out of 46,000 mosquitoes tested in 2016 in Maricopa county only 120 showed WNV. Of course this is not good but it doesn't indicate that every mosquito around here has it.

A lot of areas are dealing with outbreaks from this crazy disease and have unfortunately have seen more people impacted than us.

Yes, you're correct. Not every skeeter will carry the disease, but it seems every summer there are reported cases in PHX that make the news. I remember even hearing about it on the news when I lived back in IL (when West Nile was being discovered initially).
