Yeah, I've had no issue utilizing my pool any time off the year. It gets warm for sure, but not all that uncomfortable for me.

Mileage always varies though.

My parents sit outside pretty much all day when they visit. Area is mainly shaded, but they just left from a visit and my tolerance for sitting out there caps within 2 hours

I know you're liking this warm dry day today. It's 3% humidity right now! Like you I enjoy this pre-monsoon period, it just feels like pure desert. The sky is clear and parched of moisture, just a nice golden brown haze as the sun sets.

We did this last summer as a working vacation at an Old Town Scottsdale resort.

It was routinely about 110 during the day and I did try to take a dip once mid-day, it was like bath water and I got too much sun. I didn't find it "unbearable", but don't get any ideas about outdoor adventures. I often just ducked into the gym (chilled to about 55 degrees) if I ran out of ways to kill time until the sun went down.

The flipside is that you can lounge around in the shade perfectly fine, and without daylight savings time, the sun still starts to set relatively early. If your resort is set up with that in mind, the pool might be in the shade before you know it, plus you can swim at dawn. With it being the off-season, the pool was often almost empty all night.

The monsoon season is pretty cool. I know people on here say it's humid/muggy, but it's still very dry by northeastern standards and seeing a couple of the storms is a little added interest versus what you'd see in the winter.

Yeah, here's a pretty regular routine I have in the summer. Head out early for any outdoor activities, sun-up or earlier (if you're coming from the Eastern Time Zone that shouldn't be too bad) and plan for indoor activities from mid-morning to late afternoon. Pool time in the evening is perfect in the summer, if you ask me.

There is no shortage of indoor activities in Phoenix everything from baseball games to museums (some amazing museums- Heard, Phoenix Art, SMOCA, IDEA, Childrens, MIM and more) casinos, multiple aquariums, indoor skydiving, butterfly garden, a dozen or more performing arts venues, kart racing, indie movies, local music venues, and you get the drift... There's a lot to do, were not exactly new to dealing with the heat so you'll find quite a few businesses cater around it here.

It's also pretty easy to take a trip up North, if you haven't explored Arizona much places like Bisbee, Jerome, Prescott, Flagstaff and more are in much cooler climates and just a few hours drive from Phoenix. If you've got an extra day, especially a week day, go checkout some of the awesome southwest scenery. There's also swimming holes all over the state, high country lakes, star gazing at the various observatories, and lots of other things to keep you busy. If I have a day off on a weekday here during mid-summer, I'm pretty tempted to head up North or East of the valley to the pine forests.

It's horrible! I don't think this is the case anymore, but used to it was REALLY cheap to go there in the summer. Because no one wanted to be there! I stayed at an expensive golf resort really cheap for this reason. I had to be there and the place was NICE.

Sure thing, feel free to post up again and let us know how it's going. Just a suggestion, but I found subscribing to Phoenix Magazine to be well worth the small price that I pay. You get either a digital or print version every 4 weeks and it's always packed with ideas on things to do, I always keep the latest version handy for guests or tear out things I want to do but will forget otherwise. The Phoenix New Times is a s weekly free paper that is setup in small bins all over town, you can't miss it if you're looking for it. And they also provide a list of things to do, usually 3 or 4 a day every day of the week. They put out a "Summer survival guide" every May or so, catering to stuff like I listed.

Best of luck moving to Phoenix, summer is a tough time to move here, but since a lot of us have kids or were in school at one point we've all done it. It's kind of a right of passage. As soon as fall starts I think you'll be really happy with the weather and the huge increase of events/activities that run from Oct-Apr every year.

thanks man, I have been to phoenix often for business over the years, and I was in town on the hottest day in history several years ago, when it hit 122; I actually had my black polyester pants melt to the bench while waiting to get picked up at the airport, so I'll never forget that trip! I also remember them saying if it got one degree hotter, they would have to close the airport, since the planes couldn't get enough lift to take off!

Yeah, summer is tough, and moving there in July/august is probably crazy, at least thats what all my friends say, but hey, its hot in phoenix in the summer, and, its not like I dont expect it or know what I am in for...like you have suggested in this thread and in others, you just need to plan your days and nights accordingly, and since we get up every day at 5am Chicago time, thats 3 am your time, starting early in the am with dog walking and working out wont be that much of a change for us.. Excited as hell to get out of Illinois!!!!
