Is it just me, or has there been a ridiculous amount of "high pollution advisories" this year? I cant recall one single day where I could see South Mountain clearly from up near Glendale Ave, its always in a nasty haze, where all you see is the outline of it. Seems like every other day I see the advisories, and its only gonna get worse as tons of people move here.

There's something like 30 fires around the state right now, the air is hazy all over the state and I'm sure the valley leads the way with the amount of sunshine and vehicles we have here. Ozone is always a problem in June, even without the fires.

It's been pretty gross, however it doesn't jump out at me as unusual. I think that most years it gets like this until storms start rolling through. I also think locolife mentioned another cause, the wildfires burning around the state.

It needs to rain badly.

Having lived in Arizona 67 years, I can say with confidence that the last 5 have had unprecedentedly bad air quality. I think it is almost entirely attributable to fires - including the massive numbers of (don't get me started) "controlled burns." I live up north, 180 miles from Phoenix, and you can just about chew on the air. My wife and I have had to curtail our morning runs because we don't want That Stuff in our lungs. I started the descent into the Verde Valley from Highway 260 just a few days ago and could see nothing but smoke in the direction of Phoenix as far as my eyes could penetrate.

It might be that these warnings are spurred on by the wildfires, but I remember lots of pollution advisories before the fires started burning. Regardless, the air has been gross this year.

It's always gross this time of year, we're a victim of our own success in that regard. More people= more pollution.

In June, yes, its gross normally, but I said "this year". That's from 1/1/17 til' present. Even in the winter it was awful. I cant remember the last time I hiked the entire year and had crystal clear views. Its been a grotesque, hazy mess all year. We are the next LA.

Well even in the winter we have "No Burn Days" and have had for years. I don't know about the "next LA" but yeah, it is getting pretty bad and will continue to get worse as more and more people move here. I think Winter months may be bad because of the number of out-of-State vehicles here that don't have smog restrictions in their State of origin. In the Summer...my issues is not just from cars but from morons who head up to go camping and start campfires even with restrictions. The Forest Service had to douse over 35+ smoldering campfires last weekend alone...and the fire restrictions have been in place for almost a month.

Wildfires + dust + exhaust = No Bueno

High pollution advisories tend to accompany a spike in summer temperatures. This is not abnormal. I don't associate summer here with clean air. It seems to always be a bit hazy.

I'm sure it's not getting better, we haven't done anything to improve it. We're adding people like crazy and haven't done much to try and reduce emissions.
