I'm talking about the neighborhood around Val Vista in Mesa. Nice homes, large lots. My husband and I looked at a couple houses in this neighborhood this weekend but it wasn't anywhere on our radar before this. It seems like not much is around there, which is odd considering how expensive the homes are. Were we missing something? Are there opportunities for outdoor activity nearby? Is there even a Sprouts or Whole Foods around there? Or is the area just dominated by old people who don't recreate outside much and people who love tennis and only eat oranges? We love the big lots you can get in this neighborhood but I don't want to be living in the middle of nowhere.

I've known two people that lived in the homes in that area, both were nicer million dollar type homes and both essentially infested with scorpions. The lot sizes are nice though.

Go a little further east and check out LasSendas and Mountain Bridge. Both are family oriented communities with lots of recreational activities within and nearby. There's a Sprouts being built now at the new Longbow Marketplace at Recker and the 202.

Ah, this was a major concern of mine. I've heard that former grove areas have lots of scorpions, and any place with flood irrigation has scorpions. The houses we looked at in the groves had both of those things. A million dollar house infested with scorpions? No thanks!

Don't let that scare you away. Just because one house is "infested" doesn't mean every house it. There are a lot of pest control companies here that can take care of it if it is actually a problem

Not sure what area "Groves" is, but the area around val vista lakes is a very nice area. There is a Sprouts, Trade Joes and Natural Grocers on Gilbert and Baseline.

Agree that that shouldn't scare you away, though it's not true that any place with flood irrigation has scorpions. Central Phoenix and some of the other older areas of Phoenix, Glendale, etc. have flood irrigation and almost no scorpions. I live in Central Phoenix in an area with lots of irrigation and nobody I know has scorpions or has even heard of one in our neighborhood.
