Since this is a topic that is frequently asked about, I thought I'd give a current recommendation.

The Studio 6 in Tempe is a good deal. At Baseline and I-10, it's a fairly convenient location. Easy access to I-10, the 101, 202 and Hwy 60. Good access to some major surface streets as well, if you prefer to avoid the freeways. Even better location if you have flextime and can travel outside the standard rush hour.

I'm going on week 2 and have no issues with the property. It's quiet, clean, well-lit parking lot and the internet is fast. They charge weekly for internet (most Studio 6 charge once per the entire stay) but it's one of the better connections I've encountered at budget priced properties and worth the weekly fee ($4.99/wk). Kitchen is fully stocked with cooking items. Two pets per room, and the pet fee is per stay (not per week).

I have not noticed any weirdos hanging around, everyone seems pretty normal and fairly friendly. Lots of construction workers, a few families. It's by the freeway but I don't really hear any freeway noise once I'm inside the unit.

That's all. Carry on.

You're living in a three hundred square foot Motel 6 room with two dogs, and haven't seen any wierdos? Did someone steal the mirror?

Nice try at trolling.

First, it's a Studio 6, not Motel 6. Comes with a fairly decent kitchen and other amenities not found at Motel 6. Studio 6 properties are usually newer than Motel 6.

Second, I don't have dogs. I have two small cats. The place is quiet enough that the cats aren't even stressed. If you have cats, you'd know that's saying something.

Third, it's temporary. I came down knowing it would be busy my first few weeks, until after tax season. Three weeks or so in an extended stay place wasn't a big deal.

Fourth, my new employer is in the one part of the metro I was unfamiliar with and a temporary stay place gave me time to scout out the area and commute times from my preferred neighborhoods.

Fifth, by "weirdos", I haven't noticed any hookers, druggies, tweakers or whatever the current terminology is. Just normal people either here on temporary work assignments, corporate training (next door to a huge training facility) or relocating like I am.

Not everyone can afford to buy before moving somewhere new, or have the time to come down ahead of time to scout out somewhere to rent. Most realtors here also won't work with you until you ARE here. Therefore, requests for recommendations for temporary stay places are frequently posted here, so I thought I'd give a current update.

What rate are you paying there, Yukon?

I paid for 2 weeks to start with, $657 including tax and pet fee. I think it was $639 or so without the pet fee. I'm extending a week in a few days, the weekly rate is slightly higher but with no pet fee it should run me $329 for the week (taxes included).

Thank you for the info...I have a cat and a daughter, so this is helpful.

Would you prefer he sleep on the streets? Or maybe your front lawn? Or maybe you could be gracious enough to offer your home? Nah didn't think so. smh...
It seems like you're damned if you do, damned if you don't... he's doing the right thing but there will always be naysayers.

Yukon,

I have a clean police / record clearance and and high FICO score (over 800) but I will likely arrive without a job, but interviews scheduled. I have plenty of cash / savings.

Is Studio 6 for people are who relocating before they have a job?

Studio 6 is simply an extended stay hotel/motel. Rooms are slightly larger than a regular Motel 6 and they have an almost full kitchen (two burner stove top, full size refrigerator/freezer but no oven). Sink, cabinets and dishes/pots/pans. Utilities/cable included, internet is often an extra fee however. There are other brands in town as well offering the same type facilities - Extended Stay America, Crossland Studio Suites, Baymont Suites, Staybridge Suites, Candlewood Suites, etc. Even Marriott has studio/kitchen properties (Residence Inn is just up the street from here). Obviously the price varies by brand/property.

The extended stay hotels don't check credit, you just reserve/check in like you would at any hotel. Housekeeping is usually once a week, most properties will offer extra housekeeping at a fee. People use extended stay places for assorted reasons - business travel, relocation so they can scout areas before signing a lease/mortgage, temporary digs while waiting for their house purchase to close, vacation, etc. Just like any hotel. Only difference is you have a kitchen so you can cook and save some $ on meals if you want.

I'm a single female and find this property to be safe and well-lit.
