My husband and I will be moving to somewhere in the Phoenix area in the spring of 2018, and one of my first agenda items is to find a band to perform with. In the past I played with a classic 1960s rock and roll band -- "all 60s, all the time," as we used to say. I'll be looking for a band that plays venues, not restaurant/bars until 2am. Had enough of that.

To give you an idea, our set list included the usual suspects -- Beatles, Spoonful, Byrds, Zombies, etc., but also really offbeat 60s music from Syndicate of Sound, Question Mark & the Mysterians, Buckinghams, Beau Brummels, Strawberry Alarm Clock, Yardbirds, American Breed...

I sing lead & backup harmony and play rhythm acoustic-electric.

I'd love to hear what the music scene is like where you live, and if you have any advice for finding a working band (I'm already on Bandmix/Bandfinder). Do you think this will be an impossible task if we were to wind up living outside the Phoenix area, like in Goodyear or Maricopa?

Thanks!
Barbara

I am a long time singer and currently play in a rockabilly band in phoenix. I can honestly say I have not seen a single classic rock cover band since I have lived here. The scene is good but its mostly punk and rockabilly and metal and mostly original music. Keep in mind I primarily hang in central phoenix so Scottsdale might have some live classic rock.

I am flabbergasted! Well, maybe I'll just have to start my own. Thanks for responding!

Except that they're asking for classic rock.

OP, on weekends there's often a classic rock cover bank and Old Town Tavern. Also, the Rusty Spur tends to play a lot of classic rock, more in the Skynyrd realm. It may be worth having your husband talk to those musicians if nothing else comes up.

I'm the lead singer and lead guitarist in a classic rock band. Unfortunately we only play in my head and occasionally in the car.

There are classic rock bands playing in half the bars and casinos every weekend.I should throw in blues bands along with that also.

I used to do it myself, but it gets kinda old (like me) hearing and playing the same stuff all the time. I've switched to playing acoustic jams, and a few open mics, which are all over the valley as well.

If you attended some open mics, there are lots of people to meet and hook up with.

I would say Chuck E Baby and the Allstars would be considered a classic rock band. They've been around forever!
