I'm an experienced, semi-retired gardener in the SE valley. I'm available to do gardening jobs to earn some extra holiday money. Feel free to contact me.

When I first heard about Next Door, it sounded interesting, but as soon as I learned that it's based on using your real-life identity, that killed it for me right there. I'm "real" in life, but not online. Also, in the last year, I've started to hear bad things about it - mean, bitchy stuff going on.

Nextdoor is a great resource. I did not use my full "real" name to sign up, but just used part of my first and last names. It is a "closed" group based on your location. You can limit what information in your profile is made public and you can block members and threads as well. So you can get out of it what you need without any in depth "commitment". There are occasional online heated discussions but moderators are usually good at being aware of them just like CityData. Please don't "bash" something until you have actually tried it.

Excuse me, but I'm not "bashing" something. I'm mentioning comment/opinion in the same way that I might mention a review about a movie.

Do you think a person might be able to get away with a slight name modification, like from Jane to Janet, or from Nelson to Nilsson? And I can't remember - do they collect other information? I think my other problem is that you can't see what you're getting into. That's why I like sites like this one, where you can see what the forums are like before you sign up.

next door is a fantastic resource; probably the best resource I have ever seen for local info/referrals/updated neighborhood info...absolutely ZERO reasons to not join it

what "information" are you paranoid about revealing? if you have email, a cell phone, or a drivers license, surf the web, are a member of ANY web forum, including City Data, you are out there, with no place to "hide"

next door makes you confirm you are real, either via phone number, address confirmation,or some other way of positively identifying you are who you say you are. I use it often to buy/sell/give stuff away/get referrals/information and more, and trust me, there are ZERO privacy invasion issues, they just want to make sure you are who you say you are..
