I am an American citizen living in Ireland. I will be moving to Phoenix shortly. Can I transfer my full Irish drivers license to Arizona and get an Arizona license? What should I do?

I did this back in 2000 when I moved to the US from Ireland. Granted, I moved to Wisconsin, so the experience isn't direct however my general observations are. It took me about 18 months to get an appointment and my license back home in Dublin so I was very interested in transferring it to the US. They wouldn't do that though. So instead, I did the written and road test in about 90 minutes and passed without issue. You'll spend more time trying to figure out how to change it over and asking questions than just doing the written/road test. Frankly, they are super easy if you've ever driven.

Did you have a state issue drivers License prior to moving to Ireland If you did they should be able to get that information and all you need is your passport to get a new drivers license.

I started life in Ireland so my only driving license ever was in Dublin prior to moving to the US. They just said they wouldn't transfer it and I had to do the theory/test just like a new driver.
