I've tried several times unsuccessfully to grow Plumeria plants in the SF Bay area, and since I'm making the move to AZ Phoenix area, I was hoping perhaps Plumeria's might grow well. I know they thrive in LA coastal regions, but not sure how they do, or can do if treated well, in the desert.

Anyone on the forum successfully grow them so that they flower well and continue to grow branches ?

Thanks for any insight.

Yes, thanks, I ran into that site googling around, and was just wondering what other personal experience was. I will update when I get there and try to grow some myself.

Default I have a collection of plumeria in North Phoenix

Hi,

I've been growing plumeria here in North Phoenix (Stetson Valley area) for about 10 years. Some are in pots and some are planted in the ground. Those planted in the ground do better than the pots (grow faster, flower more profusely) but you have to protect them from frost threat in the winter and sunburn in the summerr, although some varieties do better than others. My tallest in-ground plants are about 10 feet tall and my largest, a dwarf Singapore Pink, is this one:

In the winter I move the potted ones underneath my covered patio and cut down on watering (cold wet roots will make them rot). You'll see too the colors here get really vibrant compared to the west coast. Let me know if you have more questions.

I have quite a few more pictures on my website, though I didn't take any photos last year.

Dear Rubee, thank you very much, that is one PROLIFIC plumeria ! I have not seen its equal even in Hawaii.

I read what you do in the winter, what do you do in the summer to keep them from burning up in the summer ?

I'll check your website for further instruction, and thanks again, much appreciated.

p.s. my people down in LA area grow them quite well, they are a bit inland, not at the beach.
But up in SF, just impossible, I have tried several times.
Not just me, I have not found a single live plumeria anywhere in the Bay area.

I'm in a tropical location and the neighborhood plumerias are plagued by disease. I am very impressed with yours!

Again, note that I'm not in PHX metro. Hopefully plumeria rust is a not an issue there.
