Without question, the better restaurants are factually on the East side of town. I'd pick Chicago as having some of the best restaurants. New Orleans has some decent spots (excluding Cajun) but they are few and far between.
I agree. Phoenix is a little-known foodie gem compared to much of the country. Yes there are places with better food scenes such as NYC, San Fran, LA, and Chicago, but other than that Phoenix more than holds its own against the vast majority of the country in both quality and quantity of good restaurants. Within Phoenix, though it's undoubtedly the East Valley and Central areas that have the most variety and quality places. DT Phoenix, Central Phoenix, Arcadia, Scottsdale, and Tempe are mostly where it's at in the local food culture.

Can't leave out Mesa. Mesa has surprising amount of quality Asian food.

Here's a few of my favorites, maybe you've had them all and these all suck in your opinion too but we get tacos frequently and love all of these. Since we found so many we like, we don't go out trying new ones as often as we should, it's always good to try new spots. It's pretty overwhelming when you do a search for Phoenix area taco shops, even getting to the top 100 taco shops in the valley seems like an impossible task, they're everywhere.

- Taco Guild
- Centrico
- Paz Cantina
- Taco Chelo
- Los Taquitos
- Joyride
- Cocina Madrigal
- Crujiente Tacos

Good point, Dobson Road alone is turning into a "Asia-town" of sorts, it's crazy how many restaurants and grocery stores have popped up between Main and the 60.

Nothing in Phoenix is undiscovered. If you mean "not yet gentrified" we have plenty of neighborhoods with that potential. Especially so close to the airport.

I live right next door in the 85014. Yes, the mature trees in the area were one of the big appealing factors for me in deciding to locate where I am now (that, being in Madison district, and the central location where I can get to almost anywhere important in less than 25 minutes).
