Just asking your opinions about fans vs air con use. I noticed while living in the hot areas in Latin America, the Caribbean and spending some time Tropical Asia that many people prefer using fans vs air conditioning and do very well withstanding the heart. But in the USA, in the hotter states i noticed Air-Con is king. When visiting Arizona 3 times, I also noticed that air-con was the favored choice.

This is just a observation and not scientific based of course, but what do you think the difference in preference might be? Affordability, adaptation, genetics etc.

As for me some reason I always get sick if from too much air con.

THTHX

Fans aren't enough here in my opinion

When my AC died it got up to the upper 90s in my house and the outside temp was only 108 or so. Just fans were not enough. I moved to a hotel for a few days until my ac was replaced.

We use moderate ac, ceiling fans are definitely a great addition. Ac is more useful for removing the humidity than the heat. Sans humidity, ac is a side bonus, but fans can do a lot of the work for much less cost.

When I first came to AZ I turned off my AC one summer day just to see how long I could last. By 2 pm the house was over 90 degrees and I turned the AC back on.

Generally when I go to be during the summer months I set the AC to 83-84 and use the ceiling fan when sleeping.

Then in the morning around 10:30 or so I set the AC down to 77. I try to keep the electric bill around $200 during the summer months.

People use fans in Latin America because most places don't have AC. People use AC in Arizona because fans would have the same effect of standing in front of a blow dryer.

If people in Latin America could get it and afford AC they'd jump on it.
