I seen an article, 148 homicides in Phoenix, a 44% increase from last year.

Why?

I know why, but just curious what others think, even the delusional ones.

Bottom line is that our state is changing rapidly, and not for the good.

Homicides are up nationwide. It's not unique to Phoenix.

I'm amazed that the numbers arent much higher, with the non stop, easy access to firearms out here..
not complaining in any way about that, I am a big supporter of gun rights

As for why the numbers are up, have you watched tv/news/internet/gone outside of your house at all for the last 18 months or so???

The world is mad about so many things, and, anger begets violence.

want to compare us to another big city?
enjoy..

I think we agree on one thing, we are now on the road to becoming Chicago.

Well, everything has to have an excuse these days, so why don't we just blame it on COVID like we do practically everything else? So come on everybody, let's say it: Phoenix's homicide rate is up because of the COVID pandemic. And if we can't blame COVID, let's just blame Trump, or climate change, or the police, or illegal aliens, or whatever scapegoat you'd like!

Put it in terms of per capita or it means nothing. The fact of the matter is that homicide CAN vary a lot. Most are known assailants so virtually no crime prevention program can prevent it.

I have not heard about significant random crime or homicide increases.

Then add in the increase in population in recent years - the per capita rate is what matters.

These are not easy things to figure out. BUT, the tone of the post that it is because of a democrat influence is not accurate - and almost laughable.

I’m confused as to what your point is.
I never said it was acceptable, but noting the nationwide trend speaks to your comment about "our state is changing rapidly."

I know you're probably being sarcastic, but I think it is probably indirectly linked to COVID, or, more specifically, it's a byproduct of the measures taken to try to mitigate COVID. Unemployment is up, people have been locked down with people they may not get along with, anxiety and depression have increased. Combined that with people having more time on their hands, and it's no surprise that some tensions become violent.

We're in the second worst economy in the nation's history. Only the Great Depression was worse than this.

When the economy goes south, crime goes up.
