You really don't have a clue what's burning, do you?

can someone explain to me why we close the forests, ban outdoor smoking and the like, yet we still allow all sorts of morons to blow off endless fireworks around town on the 3rd/4th/5th?

you cant smoke a cigarette, but you can fling M80's around??

just shaking my head at this...

M80s are not legal in AZ.

Fireworks are banned in the forests as well. You don't have the same problems in an urban area that you do in the forests.

not true; I live in an area that is in the foothills of some mountains, and my property and many others back up to a large wash, and open desert area, which is loaded with dried out brush/trees and bushes, that could ignite in seconds...I know the center of phoenix doesnt have quite the same issue to the degree I do, but while we are tinderbox dry, wouldnt it just make good sense to not have ANY chance to start a fire, which could develop into something very bad?
Look at the recycling plants that were on fire a week or 2 ago; those are in the heart of town, and that type of accident could happen anywhere out here when we are super bone dry..

I mean, isnt it better to be safe than sorry in extreme drought conditions like we have now?

Absolutely better to be safe than sorry. Anywhere outside the concrete urban areas are at risk for fire right now. Everyone needs to be careful.

True...and I mean...someone almost burnt the city park by us a few years ago because Chandler lets the grass go dormant (brown) and they were launching model rockets. Chandler Fire was pretty quick and it was out within minutes. (Doesn't hurt that the substation is literally across the street)

Not saying fireworks are smart this time of year and many are using illegal fireworks in the first place (anything that goes up in the air). Goes back to another post about why the forests are closing. It is not to protect people...it is to protect the forests from idiots.
