I'm gonna start day drinking so I won't care anymore.

Imagine....what we could do....folks on this forum....with 2.8 mill to "fix" our homeless issues.

$175k for two positions:

1. A homeless advocate workforce specialist

2. An executive assistant to the homeless advocate workforce specialist

These two folks will help the homeless find employment and discover self-sufficiency... and ensure compliance with $33m in federal block grants.

Excellent move. Turning our back on the problem only worsens it.

I don’t see the issue. We have a lot of homeless and not dealing with the problem is more expensive in the long run

As someone who used to live and work near downtown in one of the historic districts, I had a front row seat to the homeless issue. It was bad when I moved out and while it wasn't the predominant reason we left, it certainly made the decision to leave a lot easier.

I get the feeling that most homeless have mental health / illness issues that make it impossible for them to just "get on their feet and get working" or whatever. It seems like it's only a small number that are in good mental health and just need some help with that initial push. Training for a tradeskill, a place to stay while finding a job and getting some paychecks in, etc. But on the other hand, I haven't seen any data on this myself, so it could be totally backwards for all I know.

This is the correct answer. It will not end at $2.8 million. They will want more and they will want to raise taxes. Just another excuse for politicians to line their own pockets and the problems will not be addressed.

Change the word from "most" to "all". Our son volunteered his doctor skills for various homeless shelters. His contribution was measured in multiple weeks. He said everyone he dealt with had mental illness issues. Personally, I'm all for assigning the $$'s to the federal government and get people off of the streets. As in, it's illegal to be on the streets... But that is going to be expensive. So be it.
