Wife and I are going to a comedy show at Arizona Federal Theatre on Friday. I'd like to get some good steak before the show. Not really looking for a formal steakhouse like Morton's, Dominick's, etc. More of a place with a good vibe and atmosphere that also has good food (especially steak). I guess a good comparison would be Bourbon & Bones if you've ever experienced that place. Doesn't need to be directly downtown but in general area. Coming from Gilbert. I appreciate any ideas.

Okay...if you haven't been and don't mind dropping some coin (i.e. fairly pricey) take her to Durant's. Old School AZ staple. If you are looking for newer places...I am sure others' will chime in. That or the Compass Room.

I second the recommendation of Durant's -- just keep in mind that it's about two miles from the theater.

If you want a place within walking distance, I suggest the Arrogant Butcher.

I would suggest Durants, but you need to make reservations ahead of time. I know pre COVID there would be at least a week wait. The food there is wonderful, and they have the best martinis in town.

I definitely agree on the martinis. We were there last Friday and it wasn't full to capacity. August doesn't typically have full up reservations. It's not downtown though.

When I think of Durant's, I think of stuffy, old-school restaurant. I was thinking of something a little more modern. But I appreciate the responses. I'll probably just end up at Blue Hound, that way we can just walk to the theatre.

If you're not totally tied to a steak restaurant here are a few of my favorites downtown.

Arrogant Butcher, does have steak of course
Hannys, I believe they also have steak
Harumi Sushi, one of my favorite sushi spots nationally
Blanco, tacos of course
Pa La, wood fired, rotating menu think farm to table concept
Centrico, small taco focused spot with great margaritas
Mancusos, good kind of old fashioned italian
The Farish House, awesome cottage location, tasty French food

A few new ones I'd like to try

Rough Riders: The team behind The Whining Pig and Pigtails Cocktail Bar is opening their first full-service restaurant in the basement of the Ten-O-One Building on Roosevelt Street, called Rough Riders.

Sake Haus: I don't believe it's open yet but looks like a great concept when it does.

Ended up going to The Vig and just walked to the theatre. No steak, but it was a cool atmosphere. Was even able to eat outside. Thanks everyone.
