I have to say I agree with this -my son is at the dorms alone and he's loving it. Initially we were looking to buy for our twins for Fall 2020 but then covid hit and they took a year off and now my son is the only one going for now.

I would say if you want to buy stay west of the 101 in the 85281 zip code. There are 4 condos now avail <$300k with 1 carport that would work for your boys.

I'm delighted that two people agree with me, but it's not even a matter of whether a student "likes" dorm life or not. It's an important first step of being out of your own family bubble, being constantly exposed to different manners, different accents, different eating habits, different study habits.

But the OP seems to have disappeared.

No I am still here. Actually we want to buy a small place as a getaway for husband and I on occasion and felt it would be a good investment, plus they dont want to live in a dorm situation. One of my sons is on the autism spectrum and cannot handle the dorm environment. If we increased our budget to say 500-600k what areas around the greater Phoenix area would be good? We’ve been to AZ many times but never spent much time in the Phoenix area other than Mesa and Scottsdale. They will have a car. Any advice?
