The Coyotes will stay and the new arena will be on the reservation, because you don't need voter approval there. My family loves hockey, but a weekday game in Glendale just wasn't doable unless you were okay missing the whole first period.

The team will flourish if there is a consistant owner who knows how to run that team. I think the new owner is the right person and I think they are building a good team. Arizona sports fans like a winning team and are very bandwagony. The team will make money if they can be halfway decent.

The NHL wants the team to stay in the valley. The current commissioner gets a lot of flack because the league expanded too fast and there wasn't enough talent to go around. Arizona is the fastest growing youth hockey market in the nation. Some of the biggest playoff stars in the NHL call the valley home. The talent coming up in Arizona is what is going to keep the NHL here.

There were 3 national youth championship teams in the valley this year, 2 in Chandler and 1 in Mesa.

When I grew up here, I didn't know anyone who played hockey. Now we are developing talented athletes.

If the reservation is chosen, the ideal site isn't over by Talking Stick, it is over near where the Phoenix Rising FC used to play. This location is more centrally located for the majority of the fanbase and is more accessible to those in Chandler and Gilbert which make a significant portion of the fanbase despite what Scottsdale snobs want you to believe. Scottsdale isn't the center of the universe.

It won't go on the rez because they can't get a piece of the sports vetting money which is an huge part of the arena complex.

Well...right across the freeway is the old Drive In plot with a ton of empty space around it. I heard they may be eyeing the Fiesta Mall property...Not sure if Metro Center is still available...there are possibilities.

I think Tempe residents were short sighted turning this down even just to get rid of that landfill but it is what it is I suppose. I think they need to keep looking in the East Valley though.

I hear Legend Sports park is bankrupt

I just don't know why so many keep suggesting a location up by Talking Stick. That is not a central location at all. A large percentage of the fanbase comes from Chandler and Gilbert, and a location up by Talking Stick would not be ideal for those fans. The Fiesta Mall location is much more centrally located for the majority of the fanbase. Should that fall through, it should be located near the old Phoenix Rising FC stadium.

Seems that most everybody is perfectly fine with building a new arena for the Yotes & using public money to do so, just as long as it's located somewhere in the east Valley. Put the team in Mesa, Chandler, Scottsdale, or somewhere really pathetic like reservation land (which would be just as bad or worse than the Westgate site), but heaven forbid that the team be moved back downtown. Oh noooo, not downtown Phoenix where there is still enough available land ... and the walkability, additional transportation options, bars, eateries, and other sports venues are in full existence. We absolutely CANNOT have that because it has to be in a suburban location. Down with downtown!

Who is making this argument? Where can they build downtown? The public money in the Tempe proposal was for remediation of the property. Ironically, some have reported a remediation will be needed down the road with or without the hockey barn.

The best use for the old landfill - a tract 400 feet beneath the flight path of hundreds of commercial aircraft each day - may just be open space. We don't have to build shopping and apartments on every acre of land.

But isn't that what every talking head is about these days? Build up rather than build out? I am not saying that was the ideal spot and I fail to see why flight patterns are such a big deal...lights from the arena can be mitigated and the chance of a plan plowing into the arena are miniscule. When is the last time you heard of a commercial plane going down at Sky Harbor?

Anyway...I am sure they will find a spot.

I personally would love the stadium to be downtown, I just think there is zero chance it happens unless they move in with the Suns. So there is no sense in talking about it when the possibility of Scottsdale, Mesa, or Rez is more likely.
