Good news for a change. Stolen cars are down 29%. Ha Ha Ha. Mostly because of the "set up" cars that get stolen, then stop and the criminals get caught!!! Also cause of the border guards not letting immigrants across. Way to go Phoenix !!!!!!!!!!!

This has been the case for the past couple of years Barb. In 2001, Phoenix AND Arizona were the number 1 place for stolen cars. In 2005 Arizona was number 2. In 2006 Arizona and Phoenix were number 4, in 2007 AZ and Phoenix were number 8 and for 2008 we will fall even further thanks to improved vigilance by both law enforcement and owners. Improved technology has also deterred more would-be thieves. Enforcement and increased border vigilance also has stopped much of the stolen car trade between Mexico and Arizona.

Definitely sounds like GREAT NEWS, PhxBarb.

Also, lots of credit is due Sheriff Joe and the tough laws against the scumbag employers of illegals being enforced.

I have read some of the other non car theft crime analyses, and I have some doubts on the reports. Overall, criminal court filings are not lower than past years.

Have you ever seen HBO's "The Wire?" Phoenix PD may be "juking the stats."

I still would not leave your car at Metrocenter mall unless you are tired of owning it.

When I go to Safeway, they say bait car may be in the lot. Dont' know what that means, exactly. And I live in N. Scottsdale, FWIW.

What the heck is a 'bait car'? Is it placed by cops so would-be thieves steal it and easily get busted?

I think this is one of the best car security systems I have seen so far:

Now, where can I get a trained monkey?
