Can someone please tell me what kind of bug this is? We have millions of them on the outside walls of the house. We left a message for a pest control company this morning but have not heard from them yet.

Anybody knows how to get rid of them? They look harmless though. Anyway, please help.

This doesn't really help you, but...

We have this bug in our house--not many, but there is at least one constantly. They have done us no harm. I wouldn't see a need to kill them outside; we don't kill them inside, I just flick them away.

Thank you for the information. I did not encounter these many bugs during my 10 years in Seattle. We seem to run into all kind of surprises every summer here in Phoenix.

I never had this around my house as bad as some had; I have heard stories like yours, box elders gathered on the southern wall of the house by the hundreds. One remedy I have also heard is to spray them with soapy water. [SEE link (http://64.233.167.104/search?q=cache:TPG_n2ucWmgJ:www.ipm.iastate.edu/ipm/iiin/boxelder.html+box+elder+soapy+water&hl=en&ct=clnk& cd=1&gl=us&client=firefox-a - broken link)] It is non-toxic and supposed to work. (Even if it does not work, it will not hurt anything.)

Thank you very much for the link. The pest control company here in Fountain Hills told me that they would die off in a week or so. My kids will be having fun spraying soap water on them tonight.

I'm no entomologist either. But to my (admittedly untrained) eye, the two pictures look similar to me.
