I like Ray's over there on Thunderbird. IMO, it's the best Pizza. I now live in Ahwatukee and like Nello's. I miss Ray's though.

Tasty pizza in PHX? Is there such a thing? lol

Here are some easy directions to find good pizza:

Take 17 north to Flagstaff, take I-40 East to I-55 North to Chicago.

Estimated travel time? 26 hours.
Estimated mileage? 1,700.

All Chicago people...you better read up on Pizzeria Bianco. Many claim it to be the best in the USA..including Chicago's own Oprah..

Grimalidis is one of the older pizza places in NY/Brooklyn (and a small joint in Hoboken). Someone in the family moved out West 5 years ago and opened an Old Town location which did so well they've spawned a mini chain in PHX and now also in Vegas (and Dallas?). Some don't like the char from the coal ovens, but I like it from time to time.

Also good... Pizza a Metro (opening a 2nd location in Scottsdale soon - Via Linda area); Humble Pie; Classic Italian in Tempe; Grazie; Cibo - all use wood or coal pizza ovens, a good start. There's a new place on Mill that's gotten good reviews.
Biancos is great but requires some patience... treat it as an adventure and enjoy the bar next door.

Phoenix actually has some good pizza places, and I'm not being a homer. Yes there are plenty of people happy with the Domihut places, but a little exploration reveals some gems.

Father and Son team of staunch NYC raised Italian-Americans moved to Phoenix in the 80's found Raphaels to be an acceptable substitute for the pie we were raised on....

However we complained so much about the rest of the Italian restaurants with over cooked pasta and a servre lack of good sausage that we were forced to flee many moons ago.

So, they may or may not still make good pie, but when we found it, it brought a tear of joy to my old mans eye.

Good Luck and Vios con Dios on your quest for your kinda pie...

I agree that Anzio's is one of the best. I loved Bueno's when we lived in Mesa about 12 years ago. For a chain, I like Ray's as well. I also really like a place called Slices. The owners are from Boston. There is one in Old Town Scottsdale and another in Northeast Phoenix/Scottsdale border. Tastes just like back home to me. That did it.... now I have to go get some to eat because I'm going to think about it all day!

I was just going to mention Buenos too. They are the best I have found here and have lived here most of my life.

I 2nd Pizza A Metro. Very good and the owners are very, very nice! I don't know if anyone else mentioned it, but they are opening another on 90th and Pima...in the old Noodles store. Might be open already.
