Maybe consider taking a job at a lower pay rate than you would like to get your foot in the door??

Exactly what I was thinking. Beggars can't be chosers. I felt sorry for the poster of this thread until I read he turned down many jobs because he did not like the pay. I used to make $4,000 a month a little over 3 years ago. Now I am surviving on less than $10.00 an hour. I took what I could get and accepted it. Times are tough and any job is better than no job.

They are hiding the fact that hundreds if not thousands of people in Phoenix are turning to soup lines for food and sleeping on the streets. It is a very desperate almost depression like situation. A lot of these people have lost their homes to foreclosure and ended up on the streets. Like I said someone please take the challenge. Go down Madison avenue between 15th avenue and 11th avenue around 12 noon be sure to look up and down 13th ave. and 12th ave. It looks like the great depression. This is happening every day in Phoenix. It would be an extra bonus if you could post pictures of it here.

I don't know why the media doesn't report more on this but there it is.

I would like to see one of the folks here (whom I know probably lives in the nice clean suburbs and not in Phoenix or who lives in one of the very few nice areas of Phoenix) go down to Madison Avenue in the real Phoenix and see what goes on there every day there at noon time. It is horrible to put it lightly. Then ask again how is the job market in Phoenix?

Your location claims you live in Houston not Phoenix. Do you live here on the weekends or something?

That is nothing new. There were hundreds of homeless out there since I was born. They all stay out there because of the cass shelter.

My goodness I've been around a lot and have seen the majority of the major cities and I can tell you that that area of Phoenix is one of the worst neighborhoods I have ever seen.. Period... It looks alarming and seems like something should be done about it. You say that it hasn't changed since you were born???

I also saw some very skectchy areas around 27th Ave and Van Buren and 24th st and Jones also 12th st and Mojave. WOW!! do people actually live in those houses???

What about the areas around 15th ave and Broadway.

I was born and raised in Phoenix and lived there for 30 years until I moved to Las Vegas 3 years ago. I was a delivery driver from 1998-2006 and I had to drive through that area to get to the government buildings. You are referring to the absolute worst areas of Phoenix. The recession has nothing to do with it. When I left In March of 2006 Madison street was so full of homeless people you could barely drive through it. This was before the recession hit.

I don't know what you guys are talking about. I talk to recruiters..I've looked at the employment boards. There's I.T. jobs here. But because I.T. is so competitive you have to get in at just the right time. I've been offered 3 - 4 month contract positions left and right but since I'm still employed temporarily with my employer from Wisconsin I may still be working for the next 3 - 4 months. I also have a three children. I can't settle for a job that pays much less than what I'm making now. I've already lowered my expectations $10,000 and any employer who pays less than that for what I'm doing with my experience is not only insulting me but also the I.T. field.

Did you do any research before you moved??? Phoenix is in a horrible slump.

Just go down to Madison Avenue between 15th avenue and 11th Avenue making sure to go up and down a block on 11th, 12th and 13th avenues from Madison. Do it!! I dare you to take a look. Look at the HUNDREDS!!! and HUNDREDS!! of people in line to get free soup and other food. It is a deplorable and very desperate situation. A lot of those people came to Phoenix to look for work a year or two ago and have now have ended up on the streets. Hey go tell them you are lookin for a job. They will tell you the truth.
"May lose another 50,000 (jobs) this year"...????...you're shooting way low my friend...if we lost 60,000 jobs in 08 how would 09 be better - albeit the stimulus package but that will take a while to kick in...I say we lose bare minimum 100,000 jobs in AZ in 09 easy...
