You keep repeating that line but deliberately ignore my response because you have no answer for it. When you noticed your property value starting to decline in 2006 yet was still higher than what you paid for it, why didn't you sell then? You recognized then that your home was losing value; you had a chance to still sell and make a profit but you chose to stay. It's hard to believe that financial reasons were the only ones to hold you back in light of the above. Your excuse makes little sense

Now, let's try this again. How about you address the above before ignoring it again....if you can

I was in a relationship here in 2006. I do NOT need to justify myself to YOU or ANYONE to have an opinion. END OF STORY!

Wait, we are confused. First you said you were here for financial reasons but now you are blaming it on a "relationship". Which is it? You do have to justify yourself because you are posting an opinion on a public forum and are telling people not to come here yet you have not left. You have to explain that discrepancy and thus far you have failed to do that. Initially you claimed you are staying here for financial reasons and when I proved how that reason failed to make sense, you cited another reason. Your story is increasingly difficult to believe.

I said i disagree with this minus the man made lakes as far as strip malls galore and the same all over the place. Arizona food seems to have more variety then Sacramento. I use to be thin and the food was bland in Sacramento, I move to Arizona and find all sorts of food and now im overweight. hahaha. Minus, meaning take away, the man made lakes, meaning they don't have any if none in the state.

I lived in Sacramento for 15 years, I know how California is. Only reason I haven't gone back is too many bad memories.

Ever been to the Chinese Cultural Center (however tiny it may be) in Phoenix? Phoenix Chinese Cultural Center Restaurants
Szechwan Palace has the only authentic Sichuanese dishes I've seen in AZ. Oh, the cucumbers (side dish), while not the same as in China, are still quite good. And oh, the cumin flavored beef is too die for.

Obviously you like being 'slapped around' metaphorically speaking or you would not even bother posting here on City-Data.

For the record: I quickly got tired of making an horse's ass out of myself putting slightly derogatory comments on the NoVa Forum---------and, I was born/raised in the Wash DC area but left there 31 years ago.

California is still more expensive to live in than Arizona. Real estate is probably the main reason but they have all sorts of taxes and business disincentives as well. It's too crowded, and the coastal expressways are jam packed 20 hours a day. The immigration situation there is also out of control; the Spanish speaking population is nearing a majority if not already so, and they are teaching in Spanish in a number of public schools now, the first step toward a Quebec-like situation.

Then there's all the natural beauty of Arizona. Apart from the Canyon, there are dozens of other scenic places around the state. There's great diversity here; you can drive a mere hour out of Phoenix and be in a completely different climate and elevation. Need I mention, you can drive a few hours and be in southern California quite conveniently, or pop up to Las Vegas for a few days. Colorado is not that far away either.

As for Phoenix itself, I consider it a rather pretty place. Maybe if you're used to the touristy parts of LA or SF you might prefer those, but Phoenix has the (mostly) undeveloped mountains in and around it, the desert landscaping along public highways and on many private properties, the wide open skies, amazing sunsets, 7 months a year of fantastic weather while others are shoveling snow and picking at ice. I find the services here good; a work ethic exists, and people are generally quite friendly in the retail stores. It's a bit old fashioned and conservative in some ways. I find it rather refreshing when compared to the decadence of NYC, LA, and SF. But each to his own.
I could have wrote this if asked why I want to move to AZ this summer. +1 rep..

Great post Mike, I will check it out

Wong's Place is the real deal (McClintock and Baseline). The owner is from Hong Kong and lived in SF. There is also Gourmet House of Hong Kong and China Chile, both are in downtown. There used to be an amazing place called Big Wong. There are a lot of authentic Chinese restaurants in the valley. The problem is if they are not located in a downtown setting among high rises then to some myopic individuals, they don't exist. Most of these complainers in Phoenix are too lazy to drive and check out the area and thus form misguided opinions about the valley such as "We only have chains" Yes, we have a lot of chain restaurants but we also have a lot of non-chain restaurants as well.

Hell yeah, brother! Wong's is THE best 'cantonese' I know of in AZ. I've been going there for years. It's funny to hear someone lese mention it. Kung pao shrimp there is very good. Never heard of those downtown ones you mention, as I never really go to DT in Phoenix, but I'll try to check them out next time I'm up there.

There's a good Thai place on the SE corner of Rural and University (i think) just east of ASU campus. It used to be really cool inside what with buddha's and all, but they recenlty changed things, exept the awesome and cheap food. You gotta get a "thai iced tea" if you've never had one, and sweet basil, red curry, coconut milk dish (forget the name, but i get that one every where).

Is there a restaraunt thread for AZ? Since this is the inverse of "don't come here", I guess i"ll post another secret (in my head) gem or two.

At Ft. Mcdowell casino on the beeline...now hold on to your seat...there's all you can eat snow crab, plus other ethnic foods (including common american foods), drink, desert, for, say, 18 bucks. I think it used be 20 or more, but even then for all-you-can-eat snow crab that's damn near free. You don't have to gamble just because you go there. It's only on Friday's and Satruday's...they change that sometimes to only friday's it seems.

Another good place is at Indian Bend casino in Scottsdale. You can get some fine prime rib dinner there for 9 bucks (think it's a queen cut or so), and 10-11 for larger cuts. Man, that's real good too because I've paid 30-40 dollars for such dinners...for 9 bucks you get 4-5 star hotel food and that includes free drink(not alchohol of course). If you want to fork some over to the Indians afterwords and try your luck, then that's okay too.

Alright, one more. There's a really good pulled pork place on main st/apache trail in eastern mesa. I forget the name and I sadly never know the street names (just og by memory i guess) that is on the north side of main st and east of val vista and definately not further east than power. I think it's inbetween greenfield and higley wit about 70% certainty. anyone know what the heck I"m talking about? ;-] Anyways, they have this fried corn (i know, it sounds gross and unhealthy, but it's only the latter) and pulled pork with some very good BBQ sauce.

edit: ithanks to goofle maps street view I seen i was right about the coordinates being north eastern of main st/apache trail and greenfield. not sure if they are even open anymore due to the ecnonomy, but it's called Waldo's BBQ.
