For a golfer like me, Arizona is one of the best places in the world to live.

I've been here five plus years! This place will not cater to your desires, unless you live back there for half of the year.

The desert is oh so boring. Of course, I moved here from San Francisco, where there is oh so much to do.

At any rate, beware! This place has NOTHING to do here! At any rate, I wish I could edit my title of this thread to say "DON'T COME HERE!." But I can't without asking the Mods to do so here, and I won't bother them.

What I have learned is you have to find the city that most suits you. I was born and raised in Phoenix myself. I always hated it like a passion. Instead of complaining about, I moved to Las Vegas in which I love. I suggest leaving Phoenix, complaining will not get you no where.

And; needless to say, I would much rather live in (downtown) Kingman over any part of the SF Bay Area.
Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat? Culture, 'real' city neighborhoods (and walkable ones at that), not being completely car-dependent, an ocean, character, etc etc etc!

I'd say that you have that worded backwards! What in Phoenix cannot be replicated in the Bay Area!

I like how you compare Phoenix to the entire Bay area and not just SF. SF has a lot of limitations which is you used the word "Bay" area. First of all, the Bay area is huge and not a realistic comparison. It can take you over three hours just to drive from SF to San Jose with traffic. It's not like Phoenix in which it's right next to Scottsdale, Tempe, Mesa etc. Outside of SF, it's just suburbia like Phoenix but a worse. And let's be honest, the ocean in SF is just eye candy. The water is too cold to swim and the beaches are rocky.

1. Sunshine and warm weather
2. Large homes that are affordable
3. Higher paying wages for people in health care (Bay area is all managed care and HMO driven)
4. great golf courses

etc etc

CA has incredible golf courses, too, dont kid yourself. I agree with your 2nd and 3rd points, but #1? Sorry dude, San Fran's weather (minus the fog) is FAAAAAAAAAAAR more comfortable than PHX, especially from April until October. And overall, San Fran is eons ahead of Phoenix, its not even worth comparing. Phoenix could be compared to places like Jacksonville, FL, NOT San Fran. Its just not fair to PHX to pit it against San Fran. Just my opinion...

You are right: it is not fair to compare SF to Phx-----------at least the Middle Class has a shot at the American Dream here in the Valley of the Sun.

The SF Bay Area is definitely not worth the money---------I lived in San Mateo, Millbrae, etc. in 1978-80. Even back then housing prices were stupid money------------try $490 a month for a 1 bedroom apartment in a rough part of San Mateo. I pay $575 (2009) for a two bedroom apt here in Scottsdale; albeit a rough area by this city's standards but still much better than San Mateo's place.

Having lived in both places-----------Frisco loses pitifully.
