I remember only one other May being excessively hot like this, and that was 1984. That year, we were into the 100s in the early to middle part of May, and even some monsoonal activity happened during the latter part of the month if I remember correctly. By the end of May, 1984 (around Memorial Day weekend) Phoenix had all time record highs of 110 to 113. Needless to say, it was the hottest May on record. This May could easily be the second hottest, or even break the 1984 record of being the hottest on record if we don't get any significant relief for the next two weeks.

Normally, May has some 100 degree days toward the end of the month ... but it usually stays in the 80s & 90s for most of the month. However, what is considered "average" isn't so much average anymore, especially when you consider how much hotter it has become overall during the past 20 to 30 years. It's not necessarily global warming, but definitely the urban heat island effect. Every single year since 1980 has seen at least one record high temperature reading (often more than several record highs occur during one year) ... but Phoenix has officially tied or broken record lows only three times since 1980!

Oh no, I would have to disagree! I live in the cities. Yeah, its not cold over the summer. But it is insanely humid and the MOSQUITOS! They are terrible down here! You literally cannot leave your house without layers of poison on your skin. I can't stand anything about the summer OR the winter. The fall, those 10 or so nice days in September...those are the best. Other than that, the weather in Minnesota stinks!

Very true. Though the last couple years, mosquitos have been pretty good, unless you live by a lake. My Minnesota seasons go like this.
Winter = Frozen hell on earth
Spring = Still cold, and allergies
Summer = Hey, this isn't too bad, but why am I wearing a sweatshirt once the sun goes down?
Fall = Ahh! Just as it started getting nice and hot, it's getting cold again!

I was thinking about the temperatures, and I think the hottest we got here this spring for one freak day was 72? I figured: That's what Phoenix gets like in the WINTER. If it's like that in the winter, that's like paradise.

Phoenix will have a new addition in a year's time!

The weatherman said the other night that even though it's been unseasonably hot recently, that doesn't mean the whole summer will be hotter than usual.

I guess that means we can rest assured that it's not proportional and it won't be 150 degrees by July.

So we've got that going for us.

It feels MUCH hotter, but less sticky. You still sweat buckets, dont kid yourself. The only difference is that your sweat dries fast if you find some shade and sit still for awhile.
