Perhaps if all these east valley cities that everyone raves about had more foresight and built venues to draw these attractions you would not have to drive so far. Seems the West Valley Cities have been forward thinking in regards to entertainment and revenue draws.

Cardinals have no problems filling 3 times bigger stadium right next door.

Mitigating factor - 8 times a year plus preseason and playoffs vs. 4 times that amount.

Going from Mesa/Apache Junction/Gold Canyon to Glendale is not a good prospect 40+ a year.

If the team was winning they would fill most of that arena at least for a weekend games. Since NHL has vested interest in this team they should schedule Red Wings and Penguins games on weekdays which would also fill in that place. That would leave with about 15 games for which they would have to run some kind of promotions to attract new fans.
For what is worth light rail should be running from downtown to near Westgate complex but city of Phoenix killed that idea.
Coyotes had issues outside fan base ie "The Great One" who is taking millions a year for pretty much not doing anything. They have to solve their business side of the house in addition to attracting fans.

The 'Yotes originally played in what is now US Airway center but there was a large percentage of "limited view" seats so they needed a new arena. They had plans to build it at the old Los Arcos Mall in South Scottsdale but there were issues with the height of the building and the city turned it down. That was when Glendale stepped in and built the arena. The only thing they need to do is win some games and the people will come as with any sport in this town.

That will be solved once the current owner is out. By all regards, he's a terrible businessman.

We went to a Coyotes game on NYE last year and we had a great time. The Westgate complex was getting ready for New Years eve and they had an 80's cover metal band come in and sing the anthem and entertain between periods. It was cheesey but fun as all get-out.

(and this is coming from a hardcore NY Rangers fan)

No one lives downtown. Downtown is just inconvenient to everyone. The games were poorly attended when they played downtown in America West. It probably would have been best in Scottsdale because that is where the biggest fan base lives. But the politicos and the developers blew it on the Scottsdale site and Glendale stepped in.

Anyhow, don't get your hopes up. They will not be moving. The NHL is not going to sanction a move. If they move anyway, they will no longer be an NHL club.

Agree. They need to win and all will be fine.

That's like asking the raiders to win a super bowl. Or the oakland A's to get to the world series. No one lives in downtown, that is correct, but everyone lives around downtown.

I have no idea how to make a winner out of them. It's tough being a sports fan in this town. We have more choices than just about anyone and all of them are losers - in so many ways. Outside of Colangelo, we have had the most awful owners in pro sports, it seems.
