I'm sure you have considered this, but in this environment I would square away the employment first. You can find good housing deals anywhere in the metro area (state?, country?).

Hi ~ We were looking into Verrado as well, however I just read that the largest nuclear plant is about 20mile west of Buckeye in Wintersburg. You may want to check that out. My hubby is a cancer survivor, so for me that is a biggie. Surprise is a great alternative from what i understand.

palo verde is a good 30 miles from verrado - if any side effects were to make it that far then it would be of a magnitude where a good portion of the metro would be in for bad times

Good areas for families in the Phoenix area: Ahwatukee, Arcadia, North Central, Chandler, Gilbert, Surprise (like Vistancia), and Goodyear (Estrella). All depends on what you prefer. If you like more "urban" settings with strong roots and a great community, close to museums (Phoenix Children's Museum, Science Center), great schools, etc then I'd look at some of the established Phoenix areas.

I personally like the West Valley (of course I live in the West Valley)! For me, it is not as crowded as the East Valley. Driving during rush hour in and out of the East Valley is something I can't handle! As for activities, whether night activities, or sporting events, we have it all. The Cardinals are in Glendale, 4-5 major baseball spring season facilities, Hockey, and to get to the airport or downtown is only a 30 to 40 min drive. If you visited the Vefrado website and like what they have to offer, check out Marley Park in Surprise. Somewhat similar and not as far out west as Buckeye (Verrado). If you have any more questions about the West Valley, feel free to contact me.

The commute to and from the West Valley on I-10, which I've experienced on occasion, is no picnic either. Both sides of the Valley have a lot to offer, each person just has to weigh what their priorities are, come visit and try to get a feel for communities on both sides of the Valley, and narrow the choices from there. BTW, I don't think you can generalize the West Valley commute (the west Valley is A HUGE area... I was reminded how much so when flying in to Phoenix yesterday) to the airport or downtown as 30-40 minutes any time of day, and it certainly depends on what time of day you are trying to get there.

Or the east (or north) valley commute for that matter.

If you like the idea of Verado...check out Marley Park in Surprise. The same builders developed it and it has the same feel except it is closer to things.

Marley Park is very nice, but it is a "poor man's" Verrado, at best. It's not a new-urbanism community, while Verrado is... it doesn't include a number of the ammenities found in Verrado, and it is in a "lesser" school district.

But, if you are looking at Surprise, do look at Marley Park.
