"Estrella is nice but adds +/- 30 minutes to commute downtown"

Takes me 12 minutes to get to the I-10.

not sure - have they thought of goodyear? - there is a nice skate park there by the larger community park and it's very close to UTI (in avondale) and more convenient to downtown phoenix

i know that they have a nice waterpark in surprise as well as a good tennis facility and some decent youth rec options

here is some information on surpise parks

Official Website - Surprise, Arizona - Parks & Facilities

I don't know if the park in goodyear is any good as I haven't touched a skateboard in 20 years ... but here's a photo

I think there is also one in peoria that is supposed to be one of the better in the metro which would be about as far from surpise as goodyear (think 20-30 minutes pending)

If you really want a community feel, check out Ahwatukee. My husband and I have raised all 3 of our children there (born and raised) and they currently range in ages from 14 - 20. Get involved in your Church and once your kids get a bit bigger, have them play baseball and join the Ahwatukee Little League. It will provide you with instant 'membership' in a community that is truly there for the growth and development of family.

When I said West Valley, with exception of some areas in Buckeye, yes you can commute a lot easier into downtown or the Airport compared to the East Valley. Even from Surprise, which is pretty North West, and during rush hour traffic, it takes me no more than 50 minutes into downtown. If you are somewhere East where you have to take the 60 freeway to get to downtown or the Airport...forget about it!

As far as Marley Park being a poor man's Verrado, please keep in mind that Verrado is in Buckeye, so it is pretty far West. Also, I don't believe Buckeye is viewed as a rich man's ANYTHING. So keep in mind, location-location-location. Just like the idea of having the largest most expensive home in a community...living in the nicest community in a city...hhmmm! Simply food for thought.
