Climing 2 or 3? Try four! I had a fourth floor apartment in Maryland a couple years ago. We had an elevator but I would take the stairs unless I had groceries. I like the idea of burning calories and staying thin.

I don't buy your maintenance thing. You would be lucky to get same day maintenance on a SFH you rent. Read my post. I had to suffer in 100 degree triplex unit for three nights! Because landlord was out for the weekend and could not fix the swamp cooler.

I love my private backyard with my private pool and BBQ and grass for my son and dog to play in. I prefer to get my exercise every morning taking my regular 3.5 mile run rather than lugging things up and down 4 flights of stairs. By the way, I had to suffer 4 days when my A/C went out about 6-7 summers ago, and I was the homeowner. I called several places, and that was the best I could do. Luckily my house now has 3 zones, so if a unit goes out, I can sleep in another room. I didn't have that luxury back then. Anyway, I doubt it was a bad landlord, but rather overworked HVAC companies. May have been a bad landlord though, but that still doesn't mean most people should prefer apartments.

Thanks for the tips. I have a litle problem with the heart so climbing stairs on a steady basis isn't my favorite thing to do. I also want a 2 car garage as we both drive and most aparments list only 1 assigned parking place.
