Lately, when I upload videos from my camera to my computer, they don't play back properly. The motion is hitchy and skippy.

The camera is a Sony Cybershot, 2 years old, with heavy use. When viewed on the camera, the video plays back fine, but once uploaded it performs as described above. I thought it was my computer, until I viewed some videos from a few months ago, and realized they are not hitching and skipping.

Do I just need a new memory disk?

They should be the same but you may have inadvertently changed something and there is many things that can do that. Download gspot, don't laugh :

GSpot Codec Information Appliance

This will give you vast amount of information, compare your old videos to the new ones. You don;t have to install it, just run it. You can also open it up twice to do side by side comparison. For most fields they should be identical. Pay particular attention to the information for codec and kbps.

Do you reformat your old card/disc before shooting video with it?

Download the file from this link:

http://www.headbands.com/gspot/v26x/GSpot270a.zip

It's zip file, once you download it find the file, right click and select "extract all". This will create a folder, open the folder and find the file gspot.exe and run it by double clicking it and it will start the program.

On the menu bar on the top find options and then select export.

Put a check next to "enable exporting".

Under format put a check next "custom using the file format file below".

Just below that to the left click the box with the three dots and browse for the gspot folder you created above and select the file called "ExportFormat.txt". Click OK

On the menu bar on the top select file >> open >> and select one of your files, Gspo will start working you'll see the fields changing. Once it's complete and you don't see anything changing repeat this step again for your other file.

You can close gspot now, browse to the folder where your videos are, you're going to find two .txt files names the same as your movie (you_video_name.txt). Open them up and copy all the text and paste it into a post here and I'll be able to look at it to determine if there is any difference between the two videos.

Did I scare you away?

This is hard to diagnose because there is a few reasons why this might happen.

Couple of other questions.

You're plying these videos both from hard drive, e.g. the one that is hitching was transferred from the camcorder to your hard dive on your computer?

You have newer computer?
