I don't know which forum to put this in so you got it...or tell me a better one.
I was just cleaning up the photos files and clicked on one folder that has 30 pictures in it that I have no idea where they came from or who the people are in them.
I've had the camera all to myself for about two years.

The date is April of this year but that may not mean anything because the date is incorrect anyway.
My only thought was the camera wasn't brand new when I got it but I've never noticed these pictures before and have browsed through thr program before, moving thing around, renaming, etc.

Any ideas how this happened??

These direction are for XP but should be same for any OS after.

Right click the picture >> select properties >> Summary Tab >> Advanced Tab on the bottom

This will give you access to the EXIF information and should tell you what camera took the image and the date it was taken.

That shows that they were taken with different cameras.
The strange one states Fugifilm as maker.Mine is a Sony.
So now I am even more confused.
In case it's a question...no, these are not the kinds of pictures one may find as "sample photos" that come in a program.
The date is April 2012.

The "date taken" is meta data embedded in the file when it's first created. It's independent of file dates like you have on the computer and does not change unless manually edited. Assuming it hasn't been manually edited and the camera that took them had an accurate time/date it would be exactly when it was taken.

a) someone else downloaded photos to your computer
b) someone sent you those photos
c) you downloaded and forgot about them
d) you bought a used memory card that still had photos on it
e) you accidently put someone else's memory card in you camera

I started to write.............WFW.....none of those are likely unless I am suffering unknown memory lapses.
But then did remember that I let someone check their email several times around tht time.
I'm going to go with the idea that she downloaded those photos
