When I took this photo on October 8, 2010, after realizing that the subject was off-center, I decided not to work on it. I rediscovered it last night and decided to work on it anyway. NGC 7380 is an open cluster discovered by Caroline Herschel in 1787. Open cluster NGC 7380 is nicely intertwined with a bright diffuse nebula which bears the catalog designation Sh2-142.
Caroline Herschel discovered this cluster in 1787, when her brother William was absent. As usual, William Herschel included his sister's discovery in his catalog, and labeled it H VIII.77.
