The one that didn't come up that was once again noted on some recent ranking is North Hills. Various parts of Ross would be potentially 10 minutes from downtown, although not at typical driving times. But, it's mostly a sprawl-burb, even though it's fairly close to town. You don't get the walkable area that you'd find in Mt Lebanon, Aspinwall or Sewickely, which were all cited as having such an area in a top school district. Each of those is generally farther away from downtown.

How is it we got through an entire thread with the topics "10 minutes from town", "great schools", and "affluent", and didn't mention Mt. Lebanon. That, and Fox Chapel are the only two I can think of that meet all three of those criteria. There are other "10 minutes from town" and "affluent" areas, but with not-so-hot schools. Try looking into Mt. Lebanon, and if you are really really affluent, then Fox Chapel.

Mt. Lebanon and Fox Chapel are more than ten minutes from Downtown. To be sure, they are relatively close in, but ten minutes is a tough standard to meet.

I live in the most northern section of Lebo, and can be in the city in 10 minutes easy...

...on Sunday afternoon...

Does that count? At rush it is 30-40 minutes to drive my 2.8 miles.

Fox Chapel would be similar...10 minutes easy without rush hour traffic. But for sure longer having to mess with Rt. 28. 10 minutes is indeed a difficult bill to fill...it pretty much puts you IN the city, and then "great" schools are out.

What happened to the OP?

I was thinking Aspinwall however it may not be affluent enough. Do people who live there still say they live in Fox Chapel because that's where their kids go to school?

Yeah, I should clarify that despite my "Bexley is better than Mt. Lebanon" on the first page, I do adore Mt. Lebanon and think it's a great option for the OP. Columbus just has some really nice suburbs would be hard for any city to match.

No. Aspinwall has changed in the last 5 years. A house is now listed for sale a 650,000. Another sold this year for 600,000. It really is a sought after location because people like the sidewalks and the fact that there is a little business district. Also, the commute to downtown or Oakland is great for Pittsburgh. The problem is that there aren't that many big houses left and when they do come on the market they are priced so high many would rather buy further out in Fox Chapel or O'Hara and get a bigger house with a yard for the same price.

Is sharpsburg also in the fox chapel SD? I think it's probably pretty similar to aspinwall, no?

Sharpsburg is in the Fox Chapel School Area School District but it is nothing like Aspinwall.
