That's a fair point, although most people engage in at least occasional risky driving (e.g., driving while tired, driving with screaming kids in the back, and so on).

And then there is your kids--it is very tough to be 100% sure they are never going to be in risky driving situations if the only way they can get around independently is driving.

I won't go as far as what gameguy56 said. But you made a sweeping generalization that withstand neither facts nor logic. You wouldn't equate living in Shadyside with living in Homewood (both in Pittsburgh, admittedly a much larger municipality than Wilkinsburg), why do you equate living in the Regent Square part of Wilkinsburg with living in its North end next to Homewood? Both neighborhoods are entirely unrelated on every dimension except municipality (and by extension school district, taxes, and so on).

Besides, I'm not exactly sure how you can take driving out of the definition of "living in Cranberry". No offense to anyone living there.

It is indeed a little annoying that as you cross over from the Pittsburgh or Edgewood parts of Regent Square to the Wilkinsburg part of Regent Square, people start shooting at you.

yeah, having lived for the last 3 years on the wrong side of the busway, the only thing i'd say really bugs me is the constant hail of bullets.

oh wait, i've never actually been the victim of a crime or witnessed one! how unusual. i guess i'm good at ducking. and i've not only lived here for 3 years, i hung out on wood street at the mr. roboto project several times a week for about 7 years before that. AT NIGHT booga booga.

it's anecdotal, i know, but growing up in the affluent suburbs of connecticut i knew way, WAY more people who were hurt or killed in car accidents than i've known people hurt or killed by violent crime in the almost 15 years (almost half my life!) i've lived in scaaaary urban areas in pittsburgh and nyc. that's not even taking into account the number of strangers i've seen in accidents by the side of the road. and it's important to remember that you don't have to be driving recklessly to be in an accident - how other people drive affects you too. cause, uh, they can hit you with their car even if you're driving perfectly? as i said, i've never seen someone shooting at someone or whatever in my many walks around wilkinsburg, but it's unusual that i don't see someone doing something extraordinarily dangerous while driving on a daily basis, wherever i am.

if people want to move to wilkinsburg, they should be aware that a lot of parts are gritty urban neighborhoods and there is crime here. they should know that the property taxes are high and the public schools are awful. it's not a borough for everyone. but this cartoonish representation of the entire borough as a war zone is ridiculous.

Is it the most dangerous neighborhood, as a whole , to live in the city of Pittsburgh along with Homewood? Yes or no.... It's an easy question to answer...

Hey, you can get stabbed anywhere, look at Mt. Lebo and the ATM bandit.

Reminds me of that great quote by Russell Zisky: I got the $hit kicked out of me in Wisconsin once.

Stuff happens, no matter what the location.

Yeah, and someone got their wallet stolen in the Vatican too...

The point is: What neighborhood has "the most" criminal incidents (i.e. police incidents) in the Pittsburgh area? Look up the clearance stats....and you will see the answer to this question...

It is a poorly formed question, as we have been patiently explaining, because it doesn't make sense to try to characterize Wilkinsburg "as a whole".

Also, it isn't in the City. It is its own municipality.

it is an easy question to answer, because wilkinsburg is not a neighborhood and it's not in the city of pittsburgh, so before i even have to look up crime stats, i can say no.

to set aside your ignorance of the fact that wilkinsburg is a separate borough from pittsburgh, i don't know if it's the most dangerous area in the greater pittsburgh area. as has been said repeatedly in this thread, it is not a homogenous borough. it ranges from pretty scary to extremely nice. where i live is in between, although it seems a lot of c-d posters pee their pants even thinking about driving through my neighborhood. and i honestly don't know how the overall crime stats compare to other nearby municipalities and pittsburgh neighborhoods. since you're so sure that setting foot here is a death sentence, why don't you produce some comparative stats beyond "everyone knows"?
