The word "Yinzer" equals uneducated. It is a fact. If you are gay and hang around educated people in areas that are young and educated, you will not encounter that yinzer stuff. The only reason for those that are extremely against gays for being that way is because they have those tendencies and are trying to suppress them. It is what it is.

Enjoy

WTAE had the following page about Pittsburgh being the "5th Gayest City in America" up on their homepage just yesterday, I'm assuming in honor of gay pride month.

America's Most Gay-Friendly Cities - Photos - WTAE Pittsburgh (http://www.wtae.com/slideshow/news/26469905/detail.html - broken link)

It was slightly disturbing that the majority of commenters on their website found this to be a "bad" thing for Pittsburgh. I, of course, went through and made a few posts of my own in rebuttal. But, the bigger problem here is that these are exactly the people who could keep Pittsburgh from becoming the "new" city that it's trying to emerge as. Intolerance of any kind toward a group of people is NOT a positive thing and never will be. We need to attract people to this city, not turn them away and come off as typical "yinzers."

Their attitude is the same as the attitude of most people who post on the websites of any local news source in any major U.S. city. I've seen the same thing on Philly.com, AJC.com (Atlanta), and even the Chicago Sun-Times website.

Of course, many of the same people bitching about gays are the same people who think that Pittsburgh sucks, so their opinions should be taken for what they're worth.

I agree. With the possible exception of sports sections, I find the comment sections on most local news sites--and in fact national mainstream news sites--to be a real cesspool.

People from Pittsburgh are too busy looking at people funny because they grew up on the "wrong" side of the river.

I've noticed that--the majority of posters on news websites are very careless with their words and 9 times of 10, run at the mouth with absolutely no valid point. So goes life!

The worst is the comments section after articles on Yahoo.... they really start to make you question humanity

No kidding. I just hope giving these people an outlet online is keeping some of that bile from spilling into their real lives.

Dear god, those are the absolute worst. I don't even understand how we're living in the same society as those people.
