Agreed this tax is too high and doesn't make much sense. I feel that way about a lot of taxes though...
No kidding. Will they fix that problem? Probably not. Once a tax is in place it tends to stay that way. Look at the drink tax. Talk about a pile of money. What has it done? Punish one industry.

Pittsburgh continues to become more and more unfriendly from a tax perspective to live, work, or visit. It is the irresponsible financial management that is directly responsible. The Mayor and Council in Pittsburgh are a joke but we keep electing them. Pittsburgh should just erect big “closed” signs at the city limits. That is what the so-called leaders are doing with all the policies they pursue.

Guess you don't really know "us people", huh?

Speaking just for myself, I've long been pointing out that many tax rates, state and local, are too high. However, they are too high in part because there are so many exemptions, loop holes, and so on in the tax code that lots of other tax rates are too low. That creates radically different tax rates depending on business models, which is bad for the economy.

So sensible tax reform would broaden the tax base, eliminate these distortions, and allow you to lower tax rates overall. Of course propose that, and you will be met with a chorus of "you're a SOCIALIST" from the Norquistian types.

Most of the rich don't pay much in the way of taxes. A quick example would be Richard Nixon underpaying his taxes by $400K plus because he signed some papers and donated them. The rich are pulling all kinds of things off like that all the time. They just plug in some random number when they donate some crap. Taxes do need to be overhauled, but it is tough to fight the rich. They control everything.
