Nice stats! I remember those cool summers.....Hubby and I fondly recall those days! Sitting on 24 90+ days here in Hickory NC--1 hr north of Charlotte which probably has had even MORE. Don't get me started on the crazy hail storms, extreme wind/thunderstorms and tornadoes we have had the past few months!

The over/under on the maximum temperature in Pittsburgh for this upcoming heat wave is 93.5. Are you taking the over or under?

I'm taking the under. Pittsburgh hasn't had a 95-degree day since 2002.

During the summer of '09, which wasn't very hot, I had ceiling fans going in a row house, and didn't turn the a/c on once. I don't have fans now, in an apartment building, so I use the a/c. I would be miserable without it. It is something like 85 degrees out today.

Although not in the region, I feel I should post because Pitt will be my new home soon. Tampa has had 55 - 90degree days so far and another 30 of 86 or above .. Well on the way to our 110- - 120 per year. That's 1/3 rd of the year of 90 plus. I think i can take anything Pittsburgh can dish out and I welcome it.

Eh, wait until it's cloudy from Thanksgiving to Easter.

I guess that's subjective. I personally hate air-conditioning and almost never ran it when I did live in a house with central air. But I'm probably an outlier, I think that a lot of folks in Pittsburgh have at least a window unit. We got the place re-wired this year and had a dedicated 20 amp outlet put in next to one of the master bedroom windows but we never actually bought a window unit. It just seems like a waste of money to me.

Beyond seven days, the exact high temperatures are less certain, but enough is known that the heat wave will have ended by then. The forecast high temperatures for places like Indianapolis and Philadelphia might be overestimated that far out.

By the way, if the forecast high temperatures for Pittsburgh in the next five days hold up, then July 21, 2011 will be the first day since August 4, 2002 that the temperature in Pittsburgh has reached 95 degrees.

It's going to be 95? UGH! I never thought I'd actually say this, but bring back that interminably dreary weather I had for months when I first moved here!

You're becoming a Pittsburgher before all our eyes. You'd never fit in here if you weren't bitching about the weather ALL THE DAMN TIME!
