Many of them wouldn't take opportunities if presented to them. Don't make excuses.

There would need to be real opportunity first. I'm only making predictions, not excuses. Also it took generations for these attitudes to evolve, of course they won't magically turn around in a generation. But you have to stop making it worse before you can start making it better...

Agreed. With minimal effort I can EASILY snag jobs here in Pittsburgh. Career opportunities, on the other hand, are indeed much more contentious, but anyone who whines they can't get a "job" is just lazy or a moron. I don't make much money at either of my two jobs; however, I'd much rather kill myself working myself to the core than sitting back expecting a handout. "Jobs" have fallen into my lap since moving here. I see "Now Hiring" signs everywhere.

People will expect whatever you are willing to give them. But as the money becomes more and more worthless it won't matter if you made an honest $50 at a minimum wage job or got a $50 welfare check, neither are going to go very far, and everyone is going to be mad about it. And the least informed will react the worst.

Absolutely. There is no need to resort to violence either... so these people are mad that they are getting the "short end" so they hurt other people? How does that make their situation better? I don't buy it. I have a friend I grew up with who had a terrible home life. His dad was in jail most of his childhood and his mom died when he was in his late teens. He didn't do well in school. He graduated highschool (barely) and immediately got an entry level job with a roofing company. He has worked there for several years and now makes a decent income and has recently bought his own home in Ohio closer to other relatives of his and leads a fine life.... he wasn't a baby and resort to mob violence as result of his hardships.

I suppose different people just view this subject differently. In my case I'm not happy that I'm working 75 hours per week just to pay my bills, but I feel good inside to know that I'm doing this on my own instead of sponging off the Government.

I don't know what that one example of millions was supposed to prove but good for your friend I guess.

Look people I am not trying to justify anything. I am just stating what is occurring. I am completely opposed to handouts, for the rich or the poor. But the poor do not know or care who Ben Bernanke is or even who their congressman is. They just know that their dollar, wherever it came from, is buying less and less and less. Smart people like us will figure out a way to make it stretch, make ends meet, and maybe seek political change. Poor uneducated people will get violent. That's just human nature.

I'm a contract driver for a company in the East End that supplies delivery drivers to restaurants that don't have their own delivery service. Although my background is in auditing I must admit I enjoy interacting with the general public and would miss socializing and meeting new people terribly if I ever went back into my field---sky-high salary be darned.

If you live in Homewood and desire a safer neighborhood it doesn't mean you have to pack up and move to Norway. There are plenty of other safe neighborhoods to live in.

OK, OK, just because YOU didn't understand the point I was trying to make, then I'll admit defeat. If it's so important for you to feel omnipotent and all -powerful, HC then, I say you win. Whatever...
